Apropos

On April 30, 2025, one of the largest fires in the country’s history swept through more than 10,000 hectares in the Holy Land. Our Lady of Latroun Monastery was at the heart of this disaster. While the buildings were saved thanks to the firefighters’ relentless efforts, the monastery’s olive grove was severely affected.

Project

The extensive damage caused by the fire, combined with the current situation in the country, has led us to appeal to the public for help in restoring the olive grove, as this project far exceeds our resources.

Your support is a meaningful way to promote peace and help restore an entire ecosystem. The olive trees of Latroun have often been grafted throughout the region over the past 150 years, eventually creating a unique variety that symbolizes friendship, peace, and prayer.

Sponsor a Tree

Sponsoring an olive tree is a donation made to the Foundation of Monasteries and directed to Our Lady of Latroun Abbey for its olive grove restoration project. By sponsoring, the donor generously contributes to the replanting and rehabilitation of the Abbey of Latroun’s olive grove.

Help

Sponsoring means giving to help—but there are many ways to support us.

Irrigation

Before the irrigation repair work, a temporary solution had to be found.

Pruning

The burnt branches have been pruned. It will take four years for the tree to become productive again.

Suckers

Grow again at all costs

The olive trees are not dead, but they need help

Caring for an olive tree is a difficult and time-consuming task. So when a tree is three-quarters burned, it becomes a real challenge!

With your help, we can make it happen!

The regrowth now needs to be carefully maintained, particularly by pruning the shoots from the main trunk (suckers) to ensure healthy recovery.
